Salary: $90,000-$110,000/year
The City of Silvis is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Police Chief. The City is looking for a highly professional and collaborative leader who is committed to integrity, transparency, teambuilding, and is engaged in the best practices in the profession. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary to build positive working relationships and professional partnerships, and be a collaborative, inclusive, and an ethical leader with a desire to mentor and provide professional development within the department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provide ethical, accountable, and strategic leadership in the department.
- Enhance community policing efforts and cultivate partnerships with residents, businesses, students, and other community stakeholders.
- Ensure policies reflect best practices using modern standards of ethics and impartiality.
- Oversee department operations, budget, training, and personnel development.
- Research and complete accreditation through ILEAP. Maintain accreditation through best practices.
- Represent the department in public forums, media, and inter-agency collaborations.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in criminal justice, police science, public administration or a related field. Or any combination of training, education, and experience to meet the demands of the position.
Experience: Ten (10) years of law enforcement experience as a sworn Police Officer with at least two (2) years in a management or command-level position.
Training: Successful completion of a Program such as the ILACP Voluntary Police Chief Certification; the FBI National Academy; the Leadership, Empowerment, Advancement and Development (L.E.A.D.) Training Series and Certification Program; or the Northwestern School of Police Staff & Command certification are highly desirable.
Licensure: Must have, or be able to receive by waiver, a certification as a police officer through the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards board. Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid Illinois driver's license.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Must successfully pass pre-employment and post-offer testing requirements, including but not limited to a physical examination, psychological examination, drug screening, a comprehensive background investigation, and must be in good standing, or have left in good standing, with the prior police department for which you have worked.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
A Master's degree or additional specialized leadership / command education, such as program completion through the FBI - National Academy or equivalent programs highly preferred.
