The Bailiff is essential to preserving the integrity, security, and orderly administration of the judicial process in matters involving misdemeanor criminal offenses, traffic violations, and civil cases. The position requires a high degree of reliability, neutrality, and professionalism, as well as the ability to respond appropriately to high-stress situations while exercising sound judgment, discretion, and lawful authority.

Maintain courtroom decorum and order by monitoring proceedings and enforcing court rules, policies, and procedures.

Assist the Judge during hearings, trials, and other court sessions by announcing cases, administering oaths to witnesses, and managing exhibits.

Escort, supervise, and monitor jurors, including during deliberations, to ensure compliance with court protocols and confidentiality requirements.

Coordinate with law enforcement personnel, attorneys, and court staff to facilitate the efficient and orderly operation of the courtroom.

Perform administrative and logistical duties, including preparing the courtroom, operating and managing courtroom equipment, and ensuring proceedings are properly recorded.

Respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies or disruptions within the courtroom, including de-escalating conflicts and coordinating with court security or law enforcement as necessary.

Perform other related duties as assigned by the Judge to support judicial proceedings and court operations.

Qualifications and Requirements

High school diploma or GED required.

Valid Ohio drivers license with the ability to maintain insurability.

Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally and effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Physical ability to stand for extended periods and to meet the physical demands associated with courtroom security and operations.

Ability to successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation and drug screening.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

Associate or bachelors degree in criminal justice, law enforcement, or a closely related field.

Prior experience in law enforcement, security, or a court-related role.

Familiarity with courtroom technology, including audio/visual and recording systems.

Working knowledge of Ohio court procedures and legal terminology.

Demonstrated commitment to ethical standards, professionalism, and impartiality within a judicial setting.
