Communications Technician (Police Dispatcher)

This is responsible municipal law enforcement work in the protection of the life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances. Work involves responsibility for the protection of life and property, prevention of crime, apprehension of criminals and the enforcement of laws and ordinances in a designated area on an assigned shift.

Selected candidates will join a Virginia accredited law enforcement agency in an innovative municipality. Career Development Program

The Leesburg Police Department offers a career development program. The purpose of the program is to recognize and compensate individuals who have acquired additional or advance work related knowledge, skills and abilities during their career with the Leesburg Police Department. This program provides a career development plan based on an employee's performance, training, and length of service.

HS/GED. Must be 18 years of age at the time. appointment with U.S. Citizenship. Ability to pass a comprehensive background investigation. Ability to obtain and maintain all required certifications and system access.

External consideration for employment above the basic level requires compliance with the Leesburg Police Department's Career Development Program:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of communications technician experience and 80 hours of training received for consideration for employment as Communications Technician II (CT2).
  • Minimum of four (4) years of communication technician experience and 160 hours of training received for consideration for employment as Communications Technician III (CT3).

Public safety dispatching experience. VCIN/NCIC certification.
