DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This work consists primarily of routine guarding duties. However, there is considerable responsibility for the exercise of independent judgment in emergencies. The work is normally carried out under the general supervision of a Police Officer. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: Searches and attends women prisoners brought to the City jail; Escorts women prisoners to clinic, court, hospital, and other places as ordered; Accompanies women prisoners to other cities or from other cities to Binghamton; Makes periodic inspections of women prisoners; Supervises the cleaning of women's quarters; Keeps records and makes reports of activities; Administers first aid treatment as required.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Working knowledge of the principles of first aid; ability to secure the confidence and cooperation of others; ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions; ability to operate a personal computer and utilize common office software programs including word processing, spreadsheet, and database at an acceptable rate of accuracy and speed; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
