EMS Assistant Chief - Clinical Education

Charleston County EMS is seeking an experienced paramedic/educator to join the CCEMS Training Division as an Assistant Chief of Clinical Education. In conjunction with the Deputy Chief of Professional and Clinical Development, the Assistant Chief of Clinical Education will develop and oversee continuing professional and clinical education for Charleston County EMS Departments certified providers, and manage the departments Assistant Training Officers with education, training, simulation, research, and quality assurance activities.

Training staff schedules are based on a Monday Friday schedule, but flexibility is required for evening and weekend training sessions.

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $68,140 - $89,252

Development and management of Clinical Operating Guidelines in conjunction with Medical Control Doctors and Deputy Chief of Professional Development. Development and implementation of routine EMS continuing education program. Organization, oversight, and implementation of training and recertification courses. Development and implementation of employee development/remediation processes and procedures. Researching and compiling information necessary to make decisions regarding training and clinical guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) Paramedic Certification
  • Current South Carolina DPH Paramedic Certification
  • Education:
  1. High School Diploma or equivalent, AND at least two (2) years or more of experience as a Senior Crew Chief/Captain, Battalion Chief or Division Chief in a primary 911 system
  2. OR Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work
  3. Associate/Bachelor Degree preferred
  • Must be certified provider in :
  1. BLS certification
  2. ACLS certification
  3. ITLS or PHTLS certification
  4. PEPP or PALS certification
  5. Instructor status in each discipline and completion of an approved 40-hour instructor methodology is preferred
  • Must be eligible for and obtain certification as SC DHEC Continuing Education Program (CEP) Instructor within 6 months of hire
  • ICS course certifications 100, 200, 300, 700 and 800; ICS 400 is also preferred, must be able to obtain within 6 months of hire (pending availability of class)
  • Must have a valid South Carolina drivers license with a clean driving record prior to start date
  • Must be familiar with EMS operations, EMS procedures, EMS training, Microsoft Office Suite, and Microsoft Outlook
    1. Experience in database management, data analysis, and ESO Suite is preferred
    2. Must be familiar with SC Regulation 61-7 and SC DPH Continuing Education Program Guidelines

    In addition to the above requirements, the candidate must be detail oriented, able to multi-task, prioritize, coordinate, train, and engender a spirit of cooperation. Possessing excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, as well as organizational and planning skills is highly desired. The person in this position will provide staff support for EMS administration, as well as for a variety of working groups in Charleston County EMS
