Richland Community College Department of Public Safety is a hybrid department that currently employs three full-time Campus Police Officers (CPO) and 5 non-sworn security officers.

The CPO will be responsible for the day-to-day protection and welfare of the students, faculty, staff, visitors, and Campus properties by enforcing state laws and the Student Code of Conduct on the RCC campus or College controlled properties. The CPO performs foot and vehicle patrols of the campus to monitor behavior, secure buildings and property, maintain order during events, and enforce criminal and traffic laws. When necessary, the CPO will arrest and transport offenders to the county jail. Additionally, the CPO will serve as a primary contact between the students and the campus police.

The CPO must be able to maintain a professional demeanor in crisis situations and the ability to act as a positive role model for the student population. The CPO will employ a focus on community policing in order to assure a safe campus environment.
