Position Summary
Works under general supervision to assist in implementing individual and group counseling programs within the Sheriff's Department.
Pay Grade: 43
Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in psychology, sociology, criminal justice, or a closely related field.
- An equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Processes intake data for new cases and arranges conference or group sessions.
- Assists in preparation of program files and individual histories.
- Works with various related agencies in exchange of information, as required.
- Leads group discussions to accommodate the needs of the group, as required.
- Lectures to therapy or counseling groups and monitors discussions.
- Utilizes recreational, physical education, and other therapeutic activities counseling aids, as required.
- Prepares evaluations and reports, as required.
- Performs other related duties as required or directed.
KSAs
- Knowledge of the methods and techniques of counseling and application.
- Ability to establish and maintain meaningful rapport with participants.
- Knowledge of the legal methodology in processing cases.
- Ability to write meaningful reports.
- Ability to gather and interpret case histories.
- Ability to work with various support agencies in exchange of meaningful activities relevant to patient needs.
Special Requirements
- Must pass a physical examination.
- Must be available for shift and weekend work as required.
- Must be able to work in a jail-secured environment.
