After field training, deputies with the Walworth County Sheriff's Office are assigned to one of three 8.25 hour shifts within the Patrol Division on a rotating schedule, working 5 days on/2 days off, 5 days on/3 days off to provide 24-hour per day, 7-day per week service. The Sheriff's Office offers a robust training program with lots of opportunities for collateral duties such as substation assignment with deputy assigned take home squads, SWAT, Dive Team, Crowd Control, Honor Guard, FTO, Mobile Field Force, etc.
Lateral Transfer Benefits for Experienced Officers
- Candidates with prior law enforcement experience are eligible to be placed at an hourly rate equal to or higher than that paid by their previous employer.
- With five or more years of prior law enforcement experience, a candidate is eligible to receive 40 hours of vacation upon hire, with higher annual rates based on their prior years of service.
- Expedited field training for experienced law enforcement officers.

Written exam with 70% minimum passing score.
Oral department interview.
Prior to being considered for a position, candidates will:
Complete Law Enforcement Suitability testing (pre-psychological, non-medical)
Submit to a thorough background investigation.
Complete a ride-along with Field Training Officer.
Interview with the Sheriff and/or Undersheriff.
Once a conditional offer of employment has been made, a candidate will complete the following:
Post offer psychological evaluation.
Post offer physical (medical) examination including drug screen.
Law Enforcement Academy pre-acceptance physical fitness testing (candidates needing to attend law enforcement academy only).
