NEW Vacation Accrual/Advancement: Newly hired Enhanced Lateral Police Officers may, at the discretion of the City Manager and based on justification provided by the appointing department, receive a one-time advancement of up to 40 hours of vacation leave.

  • $98,372.09 - $131,828.00 Advertised salary range does not include 20% of Incentive Pay. Employees may be eligible for incentive pay as follows:
  • Education Incentive Pay up to 10% described below:
  • POST Intermediate Certificate: 2.5% of base salary

And/or

  • POST Advanced Certificate: 2.5% of base salary

And/or

  • Completion of 60 college semester units or AA/AS degree: 2.5% of base salary

And/or

  • Completion of 120 college semester units or BA/BS degree: 2.5% of base salary
  • Bilingual Pay: 5% of base salary
  • Officer in Charge/Field Training Officer/Investigator/School Resource Officer: 5% of base salary

Total estimated potential incentive pay: 20%

Base Salary range with all incentives: $118,046.50 - $158,193.60

Uniform Allowance: $1,200 per Fiscal Year

Dixon Police Officers are responsible for a wide variety of generalist police services. Opportunities for specialization and advancement are also available. The Dixon Police Department operates on a rotating 12-hour shift schedule.

$30,000 hiring incentive

SELECTION PROCESS: Apply immediately and include all required documents at the time application is submitted. Applications and supplemental questions will be reviewed and screened, and the most qualified candidates will be invited to continue in the examination process. The process includes a Personal History Statement (PHS) review, interview, Poly exam, extensive personal background investigation, credit history, pre-employment medical, with drug test, and psychological assessments.

Failure of any component during the exam process eliminates the candidate from further selection processing.

EMPLOYMENT PROCESSING: All appointees are required to complete a field training program and successfully complete an 18-month probationary period, and in accordance with Federal law, are to provide proof of identity and proof that they may legally work in the United States.

Ideal Candidate

Criteria for an Enhanced Lateral Police Officer are:

  • Have not worked for the City of Dixon within the last three (3) years.
  • Currently employed as an active-duty, full-time peace officer in the State of California.
  • Possess an Intermediate POST Training Certificate or higher (Advanced preferred.)
  • Possess a valid California Driver's License and satisfactory driving record.
  • Be a citizen of the United States or a permanent resident alien who is eligible for and has applied for citizenship.
  • Spanish speaking ability is desirable, but not required.
  • Other related law enforcement training and experience is desirable but not required.

BENEFIT INFORMATION

Retirement:

CalPERS Retirement System (3% @ 55 formula for Classic CalPERS members and 2.7% @ 57 formula for new CalPERS members). The City does not participate in social security.

CalPERS Tier Definition - MOU INTERPRETATION OF CALPERS TIERS

Medical:

CalPERS Medical Insurance Plans, including HMOs and PPOs. City gives an allowance toward the cost of insurance. Maximum Family Medical Benefit Allowance (2025): $2,025 per month.

2026 - Enhanced employer contributions for Health Coverage -- lower out-of-pocket costs. For full details, view the newly adopted MOU.

Bilingual Pay: 5% of Base Pay

Uniform Allowance: $1,200/fiscal year

Education Incentive:

  • 2.5% of base pay for POST Intermediate Certificate
  • 2.5% of base pay for completing 60 college semester units
  • 2.5% of base pay for POST Advanced Certificate
  • 2.5% of base pay for completing 120 college semester units

Maximum incentive able to receive for the Education Incentive is 10%.

SIGN-ON BONUS TERMS AND CONDITIONS - Selected Enhanced Lateral Police Officer (ELPO) candidate(s) will be incentivized with a $30,000 hiring incentive, paid out throughout 30-months as indicated below. In order to receive the incentive, selected candidate(s) must agree to the terms of the sign-on bonus agreement which outlines receipt of payments and employee's obligations. In the event that the employee resigns before the 30 months of service, all bonuses must be paid back to the City.

  1. Upon hire: $5,000

  2. Upon six-months successful service: $5,000

  3. Upon twelve months of successful service: $5,000

  4. Upon completion of probation: $5,000

  5. Upon twenty-four months service: $5,000

  6. Upon thirty months of service: $5,000
