The UM Police Department invites applications for a Police Officer to perform a variety of quality law enforcement duties. This position is an identified Campus Security Authority (CSA) as outlined in the federal Jeanne Clery Act.
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities- Patrol campus and campus related facilities to enforce all University regulation, Federal and state laws
- Investigate criminal activity and accidents
- Respond to and investigating in resident halls or family housing disturbances.
- Provide safety and security by unlocking doors, inspecting campus facilities for safety, health and fire hazards
- Provide crime prevention functions to the University community by providing money escorts, person escorts in the hours of darkness and giving crime prevention presentations
- Knowledge of basic law enforcement practices, State and Federal laws as well as University policies and procedures
- Possess excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Demonstrate good oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrate problem solving and conflict resolution skills
- Report writing skills and observation skills
- Ability to remain calm and impartial during difficult situations
- Knowledge of basic first aid
- Ability to identify safety hazards, security violations and knowledge of campus facilities
- Knowledge of fire and safety regulations and policies
- Ability to operate specialized police patrol equipment and alarms
- Basic knowledge of Uniform traffic code, Montana Laws
- Ability to work rotating work hours which include nights, weekends and holidays
- Law Enforcement experience working with a diverse population on an institution of higher learning
- Knowledge of the Jeanne Clery Act and requirements of the Clery Act in Campus Law Enforcement
- Knowledge of Title IX requirements on universities and their connections with Campus Law Enforcement
Position Number: 082100
Bargaining Unit: FOCUS-MFPE
Work Schedule: Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Cycle between day and nights 8-12 hours, 12months/year
Probationary Period: Six (6) months minimum
