Position Summary & Responsibilities:

Position Summary:

Deputy Warden of a multi-custody correctional facility with a resident population of approximately 1700 adult male felons in El Dorado, Kansas. Will be responsible for managing, supervising and coordinating any one of the facilities 3 major departments, Operations, Programs or Resident Life Services. Actual assignment will be based upon strengths and skills possessed by the incumbents based upon evaluation by the facility Warden.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree with major coursework in criminal justice, the social sciences, the behavioral sciences, or public administration and three years of experience in the field of corrections, including at least one year of supervisory and administrative/management experience (UTM/CSIII or above). Additional experience may be substituted for the required education as determined relevant by the agency.

Agency Approved Substitution for Required Education:

Completion of 60 semester hours of coursework from an accredited college or university, including 12 hours in criminal justice, the social sciences, or the behavioral sciences, and five years of experience in the field of corrections including at least three years of supervisory and administrative/management experience.

Ten years of experience in the field of corrections including at least five years of supervisory and administrative/management experience in the field of corrections.

Licensing & Certification

Valid Driver's License

Incumbent must possess good overall physical and mental condition consistent with unassisted ability to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation, all statutorily defined activities, duties, and Essential Functions of managers/administrators.

Extensive knowledge of principles and practices of business or correctional administration. Thorough knowledge of factors which produce crime, and attitudes, problems and behavior of residents who are restrained in a correctional setting. Thorough knowledge of modern correctional methods, principles & practices. Comprehensive knowledge of principles & practices of correctional programs, security and support operations.

The ability to interact with co-workers, subordinate staff and residents to establish and maintain effective working relationships and carry out effective case management; ability to interpret and apply regulations, policies and procedures of the KDOC and general orders of the facility; strong writing skills; ability to develop and implement complex administrative procedures and operations and utilize computer software applications in evaluating their effectiveness and efficiency; and the ability to think and act quickly during an emergency.

Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements

Applicants will be subject to background check and criminal history investigation; must pass a drug screen and possess a valid Driver's License.

Upon offer of employment, the selected candidate must obtain a valid Kansas Certificate of Tax Clearance within 10 days of the job offer. The certificate can be obtained by accessing the Kansas Department of Revenue's website. A Tax Clearance is a comprehensive tax account review to determine and ensure that an individual's account is compliant with all primary Kansas Tax Laws. A Tax Clearance expires every 90 days. If an individual who has been offered employment cannot provide proof of a tax clearance certificate, the individual will be required to enter into a payment plan with KDOR and remain current on such payment plan or make other arrangements with KDOR to achieve the tax clearance required under Executive Order 2004-03.
