Primary Purpose:

Responsible for handling law enforcement and police-related matters at District facilities as

outlined in the Texas Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedures, District's Board

Policy, Departmental Rules and Regulations, and as directed by the Chief of Police.

The Police Officer is responsible for working cooperatively with District and campus

administration, students, staff members, the community, other District police officers,

and officers from all law enforcement agencies to maintain positive campus security and

a safe and secure campus environment. Patrols district property to protect all students,

personnel, and visitors from physical harm and prevent property loss due to theft or

vandalism. Ensure enforcement of all federal, state, and local laws and ordinances.

Minimum Experience

ONE YEAR of experience of police patrol experience

Texas Peace Officer license issued by Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE)- required

Experience with students in an organized setting is preferred

Experience as a School Resource Officer or School Liaison Officer is preferred

Qualifications:

Minimum Education/Certification

Required High School diploma or GED

Preferred Bachelor's degree with coursework in Criminal Justice, Police Science,

Law Enforcement, Emergency Management, or a closely related field

Required Texas Peace Officer license issued by Texas Commission on Law

Enforcement (TCOLE)

Preferred Intermediate Peace Officer Certification issued by TCOLE and

school-based law enforcement certification issued by TCOLE

Preferred Completion of NIMS and ICS courses ICS 100; ICS 200; ICS 700

Preferred TCOLE Instructor Certification

Required Valid Texas driver's license

Preferred SBLE Training #4064

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Proficient knowledge of criminal investigations, police report writing, and criminal law

Proficient knowledge of law enforcement and emergency management programs and applicable laws Proficient knowledge of health and safety programs and applicable laws

Provide effective safety training programs to a variety of audiences

Training and ability to subdue offenders, including the use of firearms and handcuffs

Accurately communicate ideas, instructions, questions, problems, and solutions orally, visually, in writing, or through other mechanisms

Work together with others as part of a team

Work well with youth and adults

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

Tools/Equipment Used: District vehicle, firearm, handcuffs, alarm system, two-way radio,

security equipment, evidence, fire extinguisher, standard office equipment including personal

computer and peripherals

Posture: Prolonged sitting, standing, walking, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Strenuous walking and climbing, repetitive hand motions including prolonged

keyboarding and use of a mouse; occasional reaching

Lifting: Occasional lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds)

Environment: Work with frequent interruptions; must maintain a professional demeanor

under stress; must have problem-solving skills; occasional prolonged or irregular hours. Work

inside and outside (moderate exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather)

Travel: Frequent in-district travel, occasional out-of-district travel

Other: Specific hearing and visual requirements. May be subject to adverse and hazardous

working conditions, including violent and armed confrontations. Ability to control sudden violent

or extreme physical acts of others and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously

Regular attendance is an essential function

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Patrol assigned District areas and routes for walking and driving.

Respond to District crises, including on-site crisis management, and after-hours responses.

Responds to emergency safety events.

Investigate accidents, incidents, suspicious acts/person(s), allegations of violation of Board Policies,

Administrative Rules, and/or illegal activities of District staff and/or students, including assisting District administrators in various areas of confidential information and interacting with AISD Police Officers,

Campus Supervisors and legal counsel regarding juvenile offenders, gangs, felonies, health, safety, etc.

Collect and preserve evidence for criminal investigations including witness statements and physical evidence.

Arrest perpetrators, file appropriate charges, and ensure placement in jail or juvenile detention centers for law violations as necessary.

Write effective legal incident reports.

Testify in court as needed.

Work cooperatively with other police agencies to share information and provide other assistance.

Assist in providing traffic control at campus or District events, school closings or openings, or at any other time.

Provide protection to or escort District personnel as needed.

Operate all equipment including firearms according to established safety procedures.

Use sound judgment and effectively communicate with and elicit information from emotionally distraught students, staff, parents, and citizens.

Follow District safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Compile, maintain, and file all physical and electronic reports, records, and documents required, including affidavits for arrest, incident reports, and activity reports.

Inspect facilities including all district buildings and playgrounds.

Ensure compliance with all local policies and state and federal statutes including the Educator Code of Ethics.

Be available to work overtime as assigned by the Chief or Captain.

Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: No supervisory responsibilities

Position Type:Full-Time

Salary:$61,014 to $71,999 Per Year
