SALARY: See Position Description OPENING DATE: 04/23/2026 CLOSING DATE: 05/07/2026 11:59 PM DESCRIPTION: The Special Weapons and Tactics Team is currently accepting applications from sworn officers for the position of Technical Support Officer . The purpose of this opening is to establish an eligibility list for current and future openings. Responsibilities associated with the assignment include, but are not limited to, providing technical support to other police units and responding as needed to help resolve high-risk incidents where tactical robots, small Unmanned Aircraft (sUAS), and other technical equipment are needed. Additionally, team members are responsible for operating SWAT vehicles, organizing and participating in training sessions, as well as inspecting and maintaining the TSU platform and associated equipment. Officers interested in the position must have a minimum of one year of experience as a sworn police officer with the Chandler Police Department; and must be off probation. In addition, applicants must possess a current Part 107 license, and/or obtain the Part 107 license within 6 months of selection. Officers interested in the position must demonstrate the ability to work effectively as a member of a team and have excellent decision-making skills. A sound understanding of electronics and basic mechanical proficiency are desirable. Officers interested in this position should be able to lift, move and carry equipment at least fifty (50) pounds. In addition, Officers should have an understanding of small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS) and how FAA rules, including 14 CFR Part 107, impact their use. This position includes on-call compensation, as well as a 5% specialty pay incentive associated with SWAT assignment. This is a collateral duty assignment. Specialty assignment applications, resumes, as well as the last three (3) monthly check-ins for the applicants will be reviewed and evaluated. If the testing process takes place outside the employee's normal work hours, then employees may coordinate with immediate supervisors to flex time to attend their interview/test. Overtime or comp time must be pre-approved and will only be allowed under exceptional circumstances. All applications and resumes are due by midnight on Wednesday May 7, 20-26.
