Job Profile Summary

Under limited direction, plan, organize, oversee, and direct the daily operations of their assigned Public Safety Department. Manages supervisory personnel and safety officers who provide personal, real property, and equipment security throughout campus, ensuring consistent and equitable enforcement of college regulations. Maintains strong relationship between Broward College and its law enforcement partners and other public safety partners. Reviews and approves reports on incident and crime investigations. Maintains a safe and secure learning and working environment, promotes staff development and ensures public awareness of health and safety issues. Performs related work as directed.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related field.

An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.

Minimum Experience/Training:

Six or more years of public safety experience and three years of management experience.

Minimum Certification/Licenses:

Class D Guard License and/or Law Enforcement certification required.

CPR certification required.

Valid Florida Driver's License within 30 days after beginning employed by the College.

Certification in emergency first aid preferred.

Essential Functions:

Daily - 15%: Plans, organizes, oversees and directs the daily operations of the assigned Public Safety department.

Daily - 15%: Responsible for people management of the area, including recommendation of staffing, hiring, termination and discipline, setting performance standards and evaluating staff, and staff development and training.

Daily - 15%: Ensures that staff know in detail and are prepared to execute all assignments, regulations, policies, and procedures of the department. Takes measures to determine that staff are properly carrying out their assigned duties and conforming to department regulations.

Daily - 10%: Responsible for the maintenance of all records, reports and files. Reviews reports and logbooks to ascertain that information is recorded in conformance with regulations; determines the need for follow-up; determines appropriate distribution throughout the campus community. Assists with updating related College policies and procedures.

Daily - 10%: Responds to emergencies and deploys appropriate resources. Responds to questions and concerns from administration, staff, student and the general public. Effectively handles adverse situations, making good decisions, working calmly and accurately to arrive at a satisfactory resolution. Assists subordinates in performance of duties and/or provides technical direction in specific tasks as needed. Reviews incidents as appropriate and provides guidance and direction.

Daily - 10%: Evaluates with other College officials college-wide campus safety/security program and parking management and makes recommendations for improvements.

Quarterly - 5%: Represents the organization at various community events and/or meetings; promotes existing and new programs and/or policies.

Daily - 5%: Operates and maintains departmental/personal equipment. Maintains departmental uniform replacement, safety supplies and equipment and office supplies.

Other - 5%: Participates as a member of various committees, including departmental hiring and promotion, and may assist in developing and communicating departmental operating procedures.

Daily - 5%: Performs related duties as assigned.

Daily - 5%: Responsible for safety/security calls and incidents 24 hours a day.
