Job SummaryThe Police Officer at UMC will provide security support to the main hospital and hospital annex, where assigned, to ensure safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff
Reports to: Police Captain
Job Specific Responsibilities
Daily assignments may include but are not limited to:
Assist UMC Security Officers as needed
Patrols the Emergency Center inside and outside to ensure the safety and security of the faculty, patients, visitors, and employees
Assist in responding to emergency calls and situations into the hospital
Gather evidence, investigate unauthorized activity and violations
Enforce all state laws within the UMC property
Enforce traffic laws within the UMC complex
All other assigned duties related to UMC Police Department
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED
Minimum 1 year experience as a peace officer
Required Licensures/Certifications/Registrations
BLS certification from the American Heart Association must be obtained within 90 days of hire
Texas Peace Officer license in good standing
Valid class C Texas Driver License
Skills and Abilities
High degree of knowledge of the Texas Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedures
Working knowledge of principles and practices of law enforcement administration, organization, and management
Ability to apply methods and techniques used to provide a full range of law enforcement and crime prevention services and activities including investigation and identification, patrol, traffic control, records management, care and custody of persons and property, and crime prevention
Communicates effectively with patients, family of patients, visitors, and community partners
Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships
This position has much interaction with all departments and department leaders within UMC
Physical Capabilities
Extremely heavy physical effort (lift/carry up to 50lbs or more). Prolonged, extensive or considerable standing/walking and at times running. Position may also involve lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing, stooping, squatting, and crouching at times
Environmental Working Conditions
This position is exposed to indoor and outdoor changing temperatures. Exposure to blood borne pathogens, infectious organisms, agents and toxic chemicals is high.
