Position Summary

Attica Consolidated School Corporation is excited to hire its first Chief of Police/School Resource Officer. The Attica Consolidated School Corporation Board of Trustees approved the formation of the Attica Consolidated School Corporation Police Department in March of 2026 to continue to ensure the school corporation provides the safest environment for students, staff, and visitors. With preschool through 12th grade education at one location, it provides a great opportunity for all stakeholders to take part in the many activities found at the school corporation. In addition, with a total of 545 students in the school corporation, a more proactive safety approach can be administered at a higher level.

The Chief of Police/School Resource Officer serves as a liaison between law enforcement, students, school staff, and the community. The Chief of Police/School Resource Officer also helps ensure campus safety, prevents criminal activity, responds to emergencies, and supports educational programs related to safety and law awareness.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Patrol school grounds and monitor campus safety
  • Respond to emergencies, disturbances, or criminal incidents
  • Build positive relationships with students and staff
  • Investigate incidents involving students or visitors
  • Enforce local, state, and federal laws when necessary
  • Assist with conflict resolution and de-escalation
  • Develop and present safety education programs
  • Collaborate with school administrators, counselors, and parents
  • Participate in emergency preparedness planning and drills
  • Monitor entrances, events, and high-traffic areas
  • Mentor students and support youth intervention efforts
  • Lead and manage all operations of the district's police department and school safety programs
  • Develop, implement, and enforce departmental policies, procedures, and safety protocols
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, district policies, and accreditation standards
  • Oversee campus security systems, including surveillance, access control, and communication systems
  • Analyze safety data and incident reports to identify trends and recommend improvements
  • Serve as the district representative during emergencies and coordinate with outside agencies during critical incidents
  • Maintain records, prepare reports, and present updates to district leadership and school boards
  • Receive ongoing professional development and required certifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy with valid certification
  • Five years of law enforcement experience
  • High school graduate
  • Valid Indiana driver's license
  • Willingness to complete a 40-hour School Resource Officer class
  • Commitment to student safety and positive school climate
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and decision-making skills
  • Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to work with students of all ages and abilities
  • Self-directed and highly motivated

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Education, or related field
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of law enforcement experience, including supervisory and command-level experience
  • Completion of advanced law enforcement leadership training
  • Completion of a 40-hour School Resource Officer training class
  • Prior experience in school policing, campus safety, or youth-focused law enforcement

Working Conditions

  • Position will be Monday-Friday 7:15 AM-3:15 PM with a few evening and weekend events (home football games, prom, graduation, etc.), working a total of 205 days
  • Work is performed in school buildings, administrative offices, and outdoor campus environments
  • Ability to be on call for emergencies
  • Ability to respond quickly to emergency situations

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to patrol school campuses and facilities for extended periods
  • Ability to operate law enforcement and communication equipment
  • Ability to respond physically to emergencies, including standing, walking, running, and lifting as necessary

Salary/Benefits

  • Starting pay $50,000-$55,000 based on experience
