Deputy Sheriff and Detention Officer Job Type: Full Time Cabarrus County, NC Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office DETENTION OFFICER Detention starting pay is $57,657.60- hourly rate $26.40. Initial placement for new employees is customarily at entry level through 35% percentile. General Definition of Work: Performs responsible protective service work supervising inmates and ensuring the care and security of inmates at the County Sheriff Detention Center. Work is performed under the supervision of a Sergeant. Special Requirements: Must meet minimum standards of the North Carolina Sheriff's Education and Training Standards Commission. May be required to complete Employment Security Commission Aptitude Test and submit to a psychological examination. Polygraph examination and extensive background review required. Must be exposed to Taser and OC Spray Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina. Position is a safety-sensitive position as defined by the Drug Free Workplace Policy Minimum Education / Experience requirements Education and Experience: Requires graduation from high school or GED. DEPUTY SHERIFF The deputy position can be assigned to work 8 hour or 12-hour shifts depending on the vacancy and location of the position. This posting will be used to fill both 8 hour and 12-hour shifts. Deputy 12 hour starting pay is $60,540.48- hourly rate $27.72. General Definition of Work: Performs intermediate protective service work in the Sheriff's Department involving an element of personal danger. Work is performed under regular supervision. Special Requirements: Possession of Basic Law Enforcement Certificate issued by the State of North Carolina. Must meet and maintain minimum qualifications for the position established by the department and the State of North Carolina. May be required to complete Employment Security Commission Aptitude Test and submit to a psychological examination. Polygraph examination and extensive background review required. Must be exposed to Taser and OC Spray Must pass pre-hire firearms qualifications with a score of 80% or higher Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina. Position is a safety-sensitive position as defined by the Drug Free Workplace Policy. Position is essential as defined by the Inclement Weather Plan.
