LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER (LEVEL 1)

QUALIFICATIONS:

High School diploma or equivalent

Valid Kentucky Driver's License

Knowledge of Computer Technology

Current Police Officer Professional Standards (POPS) Certified

Specialized course work in law enforcement

Minimum physical requirements to perform essential job functions include: Lifting, running, carrying, bending, and climbing, utilizing manual dexterity, as well as have a full range of mobility.

Such additional qualifications as the Superintendent or Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS: Director of Law Enforcement and/or Superintendent/Designee

SUPERVISES: Not Applicable

JOB GOAL: To act in a capacity in the provisions for the

security and protection of all students, staff, and property of

the Montgomery County Schools.

BASIC FUNCTION: Perform a variety of law enforcement activities for an assigned school district including enforcing state statutes, protection of life and property, suppression of criminal activity, apprehension and prosecution of offenders, regulation of non-criminal conduct, preservation of public peace, enforcement of traffic and parking regulations and conduct investigations.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Enforce Federal, State and Local criminal laws and ordinances, and to assist school officials with the enforcement of Board of Education Policies and Administrative Regulations regarding student conduct.

Act as a liaison resource to the principal in investigating criminal law violations occurring in the school or on school property.

Confer with the principal to develop plans and strategies to prevent and/or minimize dangerous situations on or near the campus or involving students at school-related activities.

Prepare and complete accurate and thorough reports of crimes, vehicular accidents and other incidents as necessary.

Maintain assigned equipment in proper working condition.

Assist other law enforcement officers as needed.

Maintain confidentiality of records and information according to established procedures.

Assist injured persons and determine appropriate action in a timely manner.

Attend and conduct parent conferences regarding student criminal or code of conduct violations as needed.

Participate in campus activities, student organizations, and athletic/extra curricular events as needed.

Prepare cases for juvenile court in cooperation with appropriate personnel.

Investigate and preserve evidence in cases of vandalism and theft of District property; take photos as necessary.

Patrol, answer school alarms, prepares preliminary break-in vandalism and accident reports.

Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Perform such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Law Enforcement Supervisor and/or Superintendent/Designee.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Strictly adheres to professional Code of Ethics.

Knowledge of the applicable sections of the Kentucky Administrative Regulations and other applicable laws/state statutes.

Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, written language, and hearing

Must be willing and able to perform skills fundamental to performing job.

Requires the ability to bend, squat, carry, push or pull objects

Must be able to lift to 60 pounds
