Correctional Sergeant

Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s).

Under the supervision of the Correctional Lieutenant, the Correctional Sergeant will be responsible for supervision of all Correctional Officers assigned to their area of responsibility. The Correctional Sergeant will conduct on-the-job training programs to ensure that assigned staff is in compliance with all requirements; responsible for the movement of inmates and ensure their safety as well as safety of surrounding staff; prepare various reports, maintain post orders, make recommendations on needed changes, and revisions relative to the safe operation of custodial functions.

SVSP Correctional Sergeants receive additional housing pay. In addition, SVSP Correctional Sergeants receive an annual uniform allowance. This classification is also eligible for educational and/or bilingual pay.

Limited Term 12 months; may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.
