Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.

Nature of Work The fundamental purpose of this trainee-level classification is todevelop the knowledge and skills required to receive and process calls foremergency and non-emergency assistance and to dispatch appropriate publicsafety personnel. Employees in this class perform work under close supervisionand receive extensive training in calltaking, radio operations, and the use ofcomputeraided dispatch (CAD) systems. The classification includes twomandatory training phases that all trainees must successfully complete. Phase Ifocuses on call processing and E911 callhandling procedures. Phase II providesdispatch training on either the Police or Fire radio. Trainees report directlyto the Emergency Communications Supervisor. Minimum Qualifications

A high school diploma or GED.

NOTE : Qualifying education, training, andexperience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities toperform the job will be considered.

Special Requirements

Employeeshired as Emergency Communications Dispatcher Trainee must complete twomandatory training phases as a condition of employment. Phase I focuses on callprocessing and E911 callhandling procedures. Phase II provides dispatchtraining on either the Police or Fire radio. Successful completion of bothphases is required, and this requirement extends beyond the sixmonthprobationary period. Failure to complete both phases may result inreclassification or termination.

Applicantmust be at least 18 years of age, must be able to type at least 32 wpm, andmust sign a willingness statement. As acondition of continued employment, you must pass a criminal background check(to include criminal and driving history reviews) and a drug test. You must be willing to respond to theEmergency Communications Center to meet community service expectations duringemergencies, disasters, and other significant events, adhering to directivesfrom organizational leadership.

The City ofMontgomery's Emergency Communications Center operates around the clock, everyday of the year. Successful candidates will need to be available for shiftsoutside typical business hours, including weekends and most holidays. However,employees are compensated accordingly for their flexibility and dedication.

Kind of Examination Applications are being accepted to fill current vacancies and any vacancies that may occur during the life of the register. The current vacancy is with the City of Montgomery Emergency Communications Department. Applicants will be screened and qualified based on the education and experience on the application and attached supplemental questionnaire. Applicants will be required to take a computerized skills test. The skills test will be used to rank the top candidates.
