COMPENSATION : $35.52/hour (full range: $35.52 - 51.50/hour) SCHEDULE : part-time, not to exceed 20 hours/week. Workday will generally be 7:00am - 5:00pm POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Police Chief or their designee, the Bailiff is responsible for various functions in the courtroom, including but not limited to: providing security for the Municipal Court as well as serving subpoenas, warrants and other legal process of the Municipal Court. Additionally, the Bailiff provides general support functions to the Municipal Court. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide security for the Municipal Court by visually scanning the court facility for threats while conducting foot patrols, operating the metal detector, and maintaining a security presence in the courtroom during session times. Report any unsafe, hazardous, or perilous conditions to the proper authority. Provide customer service support by performing duties including but not limited to: answer phones as needed, respond to inquiries about court fees and fines, direct incoming callers to appropriate persons and departments, and provide information to and interact with visitors. Handle assigned projects, including but not limited to: investigation of cases such as false identities and failure to identify truthfully; investigation of insurance validity; determine appropriate procedures and actions to follow; inspect certificates and vehicle equipment when appropriate; communicate with possible offenders to determine actions to be taken; and document actions and results as appropriate. Oversee active and cleared warrants, serve active warrants on appropriate persons, call wanted subjects, investigate and locate subjects with active warrants, and document actions and results as appropriate. Operate and maintain assigned equipment and vehicle when appropriate. Guard and transport detained individuals when necessary. Testify in court as needed. Attend training classes, activities, and continuing education, and receive instruction in job related subjects. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with City employees and the public. Communicate professionally, promptly, effectively, and courteously with fellow employees and the public in writing, in person, and on the telephone. Inform supervisor of work-related activities. Adhere to all departmental & City policies, procedures, and Administrative Orders. Regular, reliable, and punctual attendance is required. ADDITIONAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Ability to work outside of regular schedule upon request for court proceedings. Attend training as required to maintain peace officer licensure, and enhance professional knowledge and skill. Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
General working knowledge of law enforcement regulations
Excellent oral, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
Ability to work well under pressure; prioritize effectively; exhibit appropriate decision making; and perform successfully in a dynamic, changing environment with professionalism, flexibility, and adaptability
Ability to utilize strong observation and attention to detail, and effective memory and detail recall.
Ability to exercise good judgement and appropriate decision making in all activities.
Ability to maintain emotional control in stressful situations, including interactions with customers who are upset or argumentative.
Ability to use modern computer systems and digital databases to access records, conduct inquires, and retrieve case related information efficiently. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Ability to learn and utilize Google Workspace.
Ability to adhere to all department and City policies and procedures.
Bilingual speaking fluency in Spanish language preferred.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma or GED.
Basic Peace Officer license from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).
A minimum of two (2) years of law enforcement experience.
Ability to obtain a Texas Crime Information Center/National Crime Information Center (TCIC/NCIC) operator certificate within thirty (30) days from start date.
Must pass annual firearms qualifications.
Must have valid driver s license and safe driving record. Must obtain and maintain a Texas driver s license upon selection.
Must pass a pre-employment screening, background check and employment eligibility verifications.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The essential functions of this position are performed primarily indoors in climate-controlled facilities, with occasional work performed outdoors in all weather and temperature extremes. The position will be required to perform prolonged standing, walking, and the ability to use defensive tactics or physical restraint techniques when necessary to maintain order and ensure the safety of court personnel and the public. The incumbent is subject to travel in a vehicle, and will be exposed to stressful, hostile and dangerous situations/conditions. Incumbent must be able to lift, carry, push, and/or drag objects or persons weighting up to 150 pounds unassisted (except by mechanical or stationary self-contained objects). Occasional stooping, pushing, pulling, bending, carrying, and kneeling may be required for some duties. Must be able to use various office equipment, including but not limited to, computers, audio/visual technology, telephones, fax machines, printers, copiers, etc. Incumbent must use safety equipment provided by the City in the performance of the duties of a Police Officer. All safety guidelines must be observed and safety equipment worn where required.
