We are looking for dedicated lateral officers ready to bring their skills, leadership, and passion for services to our team.Under the direction of the assigned administrator, the Police Officer protects public safety, health, and welfare and enforces federal, state, and local laws in interactions with the public.
The following list of functions, duties, and tasks is typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform other closely related or department-specific functions, duties, and tasks from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
- Patrols a designated area to preserve law and order, provides crime prevention, and discovers crimes in progress.
- Apprehends suspects.
- Investigates crimes and traffic accidents by gathering evidence and interviewing victims and witnesses.
- Writes reports, takes written victim and witness statements, and testifies in court.
- Prepares, uses, and maintains assigned equipment, including patrol vehicles, radio equipment, firearms, and less-lethal weapons.
- Assists the public, including providing first aid to injured or ill citizens.
- Assists and cooperates with other public safety agencies.
- When assigned as a K-9 officer, train, and maintain canine.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma and work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge, abilities, and skills. Previous law enforcement experience is highly desirable. Must be 21 years of age.
LICENSE(S) REQUIRED:
- Valid, current drivers license and a good driving record.
CERTIFICATIONS AND TESTING REQUIRED:
- Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Basic certificate or the ability to attain POST Basic certificate.

- This position works primarily in an outdoor environment.
- Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Heavy Work.
