The incumbent of this position serves as the Assistant Chief Investigator at Elayn Hunt Correctional Center. The incumbent under the direction of the Corrs. Colonel and the discretion of the Warden, Deputy Warden, Assistant Wardens/Security and the Assistant Warden/Treatment, will perform any criminal investigations and or administrative investigations which involve offenders or employees of EHCC.

Four years of experience in a correctional, behavioral, or penal institution with responsibility for the security, custody, rehabilitation, or classification of offenders, or in law enforcement or security plus one of the following: 1. Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR 2. One year of experience in any field; OR 3. Six months of law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer. Two years of this experience must have been in a position equivalent in scope of responsibility or complexity of work performed to a Corrections Lieutenant in the State service. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted. In accordance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) (Part 115:17) of Title 28 of the Code of Federal Regulations an applicant who has been found to have engaged in any form of sexual abuse; engaged in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable or refused will be disqualified. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. Possession of a current driver's license.

Job Duties:

  • Organizes and develops plans for conducting investigations within the Institution. Confers regularly with appropriate staff on status of ongoing investigations. Reviews all Unusual Occurrence Reports from Security. Confers regularly with the Warden regarding status of current investigations and potential areas of concern.
  • Serves as liaison with Federal, State and local law enforcement to coordinate and assist with investigations relating to the law violations by offenders, officers or visitors. Coordinates with offices of the Sheriffs department to periodically destroy contraband, such as drugs, marijuana, weapons, etc. that is no longer needed as evidence by the District Attorneys office. Coordinates with District Attorney providing case reports and evidence submitted for Grand Jury presentation and/or jury trials on criminal law violations by offenders, employees or visitors.
  • Assures that physical evidence such as drugs, weapons, etc. is acquired and chain of possession of evidence is preserved for possible future use. Keeps records on the disposition on evidence for future reference. Maintains official records of all investigations including inventory of evidence stored in the evidence locker.

Appointment Type: PROBATION, or PROMOTION OF A PERMANENT, CLASSIFIED LOUISIANA STATE EMPLOYEE

  • Current permanent status classified LA State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted.
  • An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.

Compensation: This position has a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $26.36 per hour.

This position also offers premium pay: A rate between $1.00 and $2.00 an hour for each regular hour worked, based on years of service with DOC, in addition to regular pay.
