The Assistant Chief Investigator at Elayn Hunt Correctional Center serves as a key member of the facility's investigative leadership team. Under the direction of the Corrections Colonel and at the discretion of the Warden, Deputy Warden, Assistant Wardens/Security, and Assistant Warden/Treatment, the incumbent is responsible for conducting criminal and administrative investigations involving offenders and employees of EHCC. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the integrity, safety, and accountability of operations within one of Louisiana's largest correctional institutions.

Minimum Qualifications
Four years of experience in a correctional, behavioral, or penal institution with responsibility for the security, custody, rehabilitation, or classification of offenders, or in law enforcement or security plus one of the following:
1. Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR
2. One year of experience in any field; OR
3. Six months of law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer.
Two years of this experience must have been in a position equivalent in scope of responsibility or complexity of work performed to a Corrections Lieutenant in the State service.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
In accordance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) (Part 115:17) of Title 28 of the Code of Federal Regulations an applicant who has been found to have engaged in any form of sexual abuse; engaged in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable or refused will be disqualified.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
Possession of a current driver's license.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
Plan and Oversee Institutional Investigations: Develop and organize investigative strategies for incidents occurring within the facility. Maintain regular communication with appropriate staff regarding the status of ongoing investigations. Review all Unusual Occurrence Reports submitted by Security and provide timely updates to the Warden on current cases, emerging trends, and potential areas of concern.
Serve as Law Enforcement Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to coordinate and support investigations involving offenders, employees, or visitors. Work closely with the Sheriff's Office to arrange the periodic destruction of contrabandsuch as narcotics, weapons, and other prohibited itemsonce cleared by the District Attorney's Office. Collaborate with the District Attorney by preparing case reports, submitting evidence, and supporting Grand Jury presentations and criminal trials.
Manage Evidence and Maintain Investigative Records: Ensure proper acquisition, documentation, and preservation of physical evidence, including maintaining an unbroken chain of custody for potential future legal proceedings. Keep detailed records of evidence disposition and maintain accurate, secure inventories of all items stored in the evidence locker. Preserve comprehensive official records for all investigations conducted.

Appointment Type: PROBATION, or PROMOTION OF A PERMANENT, CLASSIFIED LOUISIANA STATE EMPLOYEE
Current permanent status classified LA State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted.
An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.
This posting may also be used to fill a vacancy as a temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.
Compensation: This position has a Special Entrance Rate of $26.37 per hour.
There is Premium Pay' for this position: A rate between $1.00 an hour and $2.00 an hour for each hour worked based on years of service with DOC, in addition to regular pay.
